West Cork & Kerry Bike Tour

WestCorkCover

Book Now Button

Enjoy classic Irish landscapes in Counties Cork & Kerry on our Ireland bike tour. We venture into the Ring of Kerry, and Dingle Peninsula and visit the wonderful towns of Dingle and Killarney. This is the area of The Skelligs as featured in the most recent Star Wars movies. Enjoy whiskey tastings and lively village culture. Share the small back roads with sheep and embrace the Irish coconut - the wild gorse flowers. This 5-night, 6-day adventure is available as both a Deluxe and Classic package.

Since the 8th century, when Irish monks voyaged from County Kerry to areas of Europe and Scandinavia, the South-West Region, comprising of the counties of Cork and Kerry, has been developing links with communities throughout the world. Since the Brendan Voyage, the South West coast of Ireland has been known for its cultural wealth and heritage. Many visitors to Ireland comment that they don't feel as though they have seen Ireland properly until they set foot upon this mossy landscape. We stray far from the tourist trail to bring you an authentic bike tour away from the tour buses. #pedalon

Itinerary

Day 1

We meet in Shannon Airport and transfer to our first hotel in Killarney where we spend two nights and discover the Ring of Kerry by day.

Our first day's ride includes a lesiurely loop through the Killarney National Park which is internationally renowned for its scenic beauty and scientific interest and which encompasses the three Lakes of Killarney and the mountains and woods which surround them.  We'll spin around Mukross Lake with a visit to Mukross House - a magnificent Victorian Mansion, beautifully situated amidst the spectacular scenery of the National Park.  It’s elegantly furnished rooms portray the lifestyles of those who lived in the house in Victorian times.  We'll pedal on and drop by Muckross Abbey, a major ecclesiastical site situated in Killarney National Park.  It was founded in 1448 as a Fransiscan friary by Donal McCarthy Mor and is in a remarkable state of preservation.  We'll dine all together tonight in a fabulous local restaurant right in the heart of Killarney. Prepare to feast on local produce like lamb and beef and the best seafood. The dairy produce in this region is truly magnificient so why not try a cheese plate after dinner?

Day 2

Our second day's ride begins after a transfer to one of the more scenic, and quieter, parts of the Ring of Kerry. We'll ride from Kells Bay to Portmagee and see the wonderful Skeeligs from the headland at Ballinskelligs. Our ride will finish in Waterville and we'll transfer then back to our hotel. Dinner tonight is on your own.

Day 3

Our third day together sees us bid farewell to the charming town of Killarney as we head in the direction of Kenmare in the majestic Killarney National Park. Kenmare is a beautiful spot where no fewer than three rivers empty into one - the Kenmare River. Tonight we will have dinner together in a local pub in this buzzing market town.

Day 4 & 5

Our fourth and fifth nights are then spent across the county border in the West Cork town of Bantry on the Beara Peninsula. This is a charming town, one which was often visited by wealthy Victorians in the mid 19th century. While the Victorians are no longer with us, many of their magnificient houses remain. We will have tea at Bantry House and enjoy the extensive gardens overlooking Bantry Bay. Bantry is also home to some of the best restaurants in the region so we'll dine well here!

On our fourth day we'll bike for around ten miles and then take a five mile hike on the Beara Way before having dinner at our hotel. You'll have plenty of time to amble through this quaint village and perhaps pop into one of the local pubs to hear the distinctive lilt of the locals.

Our final day biking is the best of the week - we'll complete a loop of the Sheeps Head peninsula. This is the least visited of the south west peninsulas, and you'll be rewarded with breathtaking seascapes in a tranquil setting. At 50 miles, this is also one of the longest rides of the week but, be rest-assured, our trusty Fresh Eire Adventures support vehicle will be with you every step of the way.

On our final night together we'll have a wonderful farewell meal, and afterwards we'll go for a pint, in true Irish style, in a nearby pub.

Day 6

After breakfast on our sixth day, we'll transfer you back to Shannon Airport or Limerick city centre.

Average daily biking is 30 miles (additional riding is available to those so inclined, less riding is also an option – this is your vacation; not bootcamp!).
